Marine Terms of Reference

General

To keep abreast of policy and other developments in the coastal and offshore marine environment which have significance, whether good or bad, for nature conservation and the countryside in Northern Ireland. To address substantial environmental issues as they arise and to consult and inform the full Council on these matters.

Specific

  • Advise and support EHS Aquatic Section, with CNCC's agreement.
  • Appraise the Review of Marine Nature Conservation process and input where appropriate. Consider outcomes of Irish Sea Pilot Study input to further work where possible.
  • Input to Water Framework Directive implementation in respect of marine matters, including the "1 nautical mile" boundary.
  • Input to the Modiolus modiolus restoration programme, and ensure CNCC representation on any steering group or other body that manages this programme.
  • Input to DARD Fisheries Division Aquaculture Strategy.
  • Consideration of implementation of Integrated Coastal Zone Management as it affects N Ireland coast and waters; representation on N Ireland ICZM group.
  • Contribute to other initiatives, and monitor and comment on other reports and policies as appropriate.
